New Exhibit – The Art of Crafting

The Art of Crafting

The Art of Crafting, features artifacts that showcase dressmaking, quilting, crochet and more.  The museum team was inspired by how many people have been completing unfinished craft projects or learning new skills while Picture of The Art of Crafting Exhibitsheltering at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.  On returning to the museum, they began to wonder how many old traditions had been restarted or new ones initiated. They hope that this exhibit will encourage people to remember and share their own family traditions, while perhaps inspiring others to start new ones.

From a homemade floral dress from the 1950s, to a hand-dyed jumpsuit ready for a music festival (generously donated for this exhibit by Jammin on Vegas Tie Dye Studio), the Art of Crafting is a colorful array of art that is often taken for granted because of its familiarity. Also on display is an ornate hundred-year-old Singer sewing machine complete with bobbins and needles along with handmade rag dolls.

As part of this exhibit, the museum is also seeking projects that will reflect how people spent some of their time sheltering at home so that these items can be added to the museum collection as a record of this time.  The museum team is looking to preserve some of the history of this time period by collecting crafts and the associated stories curated by the local community – if people are willing to part with their craft projects!
